Swimming Pool Heaters

Repairing Existing Heaters

Tiki Nui Pool Care can repair all major brands of Residential Swimming Pool Heaters on the Treasure Coast.

If you are in Saint Lucie County and surrounding areas, we can usually get replacement parts, including control boards, sensors, condensors, evaporators, compressors, blowers, burners and more.

If your Heater is older that 5 or 6 years, you may find that it’s smarter and just a little more to replace the Heater altogether, and the cost-benefit of a new High Efficiency Pool Heater or Heat Pump makes it an easy decision for most customers.

Upgrading to a High Efficiency Pool Heater

The new Natural Gas and Propane Pool Heaters are definitely more energy efficient than older models, but don’t compare to the energy efficiency of Heat Pumps.

If this is the case, then why do people still buy and use Gas Heaters? Well, although Heat Pumps cost less to operate per hour than Gas Heaters, they take much longer to bring a pool or spa up to desired temperature.

Wanting nearly instant heat in the spa, or a rapid warm-up of the pool is a job suited for a gas heater, but it will cost you $$ each time.

Heat Pump vs. Gas Heater vs. Hybrid Heater - Determining the Best Option for Your Pool

Extending your swimming season and enhancing family enjoyment often involve the decision to heat your pool. However, navigating the choice between a gas-fired heater and a heat pump can be daunting. As you step into a pool supply store, the question looms:
“Gas heater or heat pump?”

The quest for pool warmth shouldn’t cause sleepless nights. In the time it takes to read this blog, we aim to steer you toward the optimal choice for your pool.

Both Have Advantages and Drawbacks

This isn’t a straightforward case of one being inherently superior to the other. Gas-fired heaters and heat pumps differ in construction, performance, and energy consumption. Understanding these differences can guide you toward the most suitable option.

Gas Heaters

First, let’s get into gas heaters. These units are powered by either natural gas or propane and have long been favored by pool owners. They’ve been a staple longer than heat pumps and dominate the landscape with older pool heating systems.

Pros:

  1.  Lower Initial Cost: Gas heaters generally come with a lower price tag compared to heat pumps, making them a more budget-friendly choice upfront.
  2.  Consistent Heating: Gas heaters are unaffected by external temperatures, ensuring consistent warmth regardless of weather conditions.
  3.  Rapid Heating: Gas heaters can quickly raise water temperatures, ideal for spontaneous pool usage or short-term heating needs.
  4.  Potentially Lower Installation Costs: Depending on factors like proximity to gas lines, gas heaters may entail lower installation expenses.

Cons:

  1.  Higher Energy Consumption: Gas heaters are less efficient, resulting in higher operational costs over time.
  2.  Shorter Lifespan: The intense heat and numerous moving parts can lead to more frequent repairs and shorter lifespans compared to heat pumps.
  3.  Gas Line and/or Tank Installation Costs: Installation may necessitate gas lines or large propane tanks, adding to the setup cost, complexity and aesthetic considerations.

Heat Pumps

Moving on to heat pumps, these units operate on electricity and function similarly to air conditioners but in reverse. Until recently, less common than gas heaters, they offer distinct advantages.

Pros:

  1.  Lower Operating Costs: Heat pumps are highly efficient, translating to lower long-term operational expenses despite their higher initial purchase price.
  2.  Extended Lifespan: With fewer moving parts and gentle operation, heat pumps typically outlast gas heaters and require fewer repairs.
  3.  Environmental Friendliness: Heat pumps produce no carbon dioxide emissions and consume less energy, aligning with green initiatives.

Cons:

  1.  Slower Heating: Heat pumps take longer to warm up, making them less suitable for short-term heating needs.
  2.  Electrical Installation Costs: Requiring 220 Volt service, heat pumps may incur higher installation expenses based on breaker panel availability and distance to the pool.
  3.  Higher Purchase Price: Despite decreasing costs, heat pumps still tend to be pricier upfront compared to gas heaters.

Ultimately, the ideal choice for your pool hinges on your specific circumstances and preferences. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but rather options better suited to your family’s pool requirements and desires.

Pool was overflowing and looked awful because we had forgotten that the hose was left on when we were adding water yesterday. The pool tech let some water out but couldnt let more out because the area was flooded. However it still looked great! Its obvious that he really knows what hes doing and were very pleased!
